Dance Club takes place on Tuesday after school at Coleridge in the main hall, West side.

Melissa’s Dance Club is largely a creative experience. A typical lesson would include a taught technical study in a particular style. Pupils create their own dances in duets/trios followed by a small performance and guided peer feedback.

I choose a song from the charts – something like Lady Gaga, Beyonce or Taylor Swift. I’m currently choreographing a dance with the children to Agnes called ‘Release Me’. I do a new dance every two weeks.

Pupils are encouraged to give positive feedback. More specifically they are able to tell the children they are watching “what went well”!

This structure – create, perform, analyse – is a precursor to secondary school dance education.

Parents are able to see their children perform the set dances as well as their own dances, created in their own time at the end of each term.
